We have breakfast with Steffie and leave just before 10am. We have had another wonderful experience with someone who was a stranger 24 hour ago and is now a friend.

It’s a cool morning. Kim has on her rain jacket for the wind. Cycle through town and back to the Rhine.

Cruisey morning ride. We get a great view of Drachenburg Schloss across the river. I do some googling later and find it is even more impressive. A place we will need to return to.

We arrive at Bonn just before midday. We cycle through the city taking photos and trying to get a feel for the place. First stop is the Hofgarten palace.

Then for a walk through the old town.
It doesn’t have a buzz like Mainz or Freiburg but we like its parks and architecture. The wind picks up and it threatens to rain but doesn’t. We find a park next to the river to enjoy our lunch.

The next 2 hours we are right next to the Rhine until the last 8kms when we ride through forest and arrive into Rodenkirchen which is a suburb of Cologne.

We find the market square and enjoy the autumn sun and blog while we wait for Anne our warm showers host to get home. Anne only hosts about once a year however we are her 3rd Australian guests! Anne told Kim in their emails she doesn’t cook so we walk to her local which is a traditional Cologne pub. It’s buzzing and seems the place to be. Anne’s mum lives in a flat behind her apartment and she joins us. Anne orders a round of local beers for us to cheers to. I have a local specialty of blood sausage, mash potato and apple and Kim enjoys another goulash soup.
After dinner we walk to the old part of town on the Rhine. It’s a handful of cobbled streets lined with wooden houses. The church was built 989!
Bed just after 9pm.
