The wind wakes us sometime around midnight. It's a big gust, the kind that makes you question if the tent pegs are secure, and if it was unwise to pitch the tent under a big tree. This was not in the weather forecast. Check the weather on our phone again. There is now a storm warning for Koblenz. Driving rain comes soon after. It lasts for about an hour, then rain stops and the wind eases off a bit. By morning the wind has dried the tent of last night's rain.

We make coffee and porridge as we pack. The sky is blue, the only sign of the storm is leaves and branches on the ground.

The ride today is not as spectacular as the last 2 days. The valley has widened out and there is a bit more industry. There are some brights spots though. The city walls at Andernach.

Schloss Namedy at the 26km mark.

We spot this beer garden but it's too early to stop for a beer and enjoy the view of the castle amongst the vines across the river in Bad Honningen.

There is a market on the promenade in the village of Kripp so we need to walk the bike through the locals doing their shopping.

It’s not a long ride and we arrive into Remagen at 1pm so head to the brewery for a beer and a lunch. It’s on the Rhine and in the sun. Enjoy a late lunch of I have Lieberkaser a type of german meatloaf, Kim has a waffle. We sit and people watch.

We cycle to to Aldi for dinner provisions and arrive at Steffie's before 3pm. Park Polly and Pacman in her bike garage and head inside for a cuppa to get to know each other. Steffie is the sister-in-law of my friend Linda whom I met travelling in Europe over 20 years ago.
We have our own room downstairs. We freshen up and then spend the afternoon in the sun in the garden chatting. Steffie is a doctor but doesn’t like the healthcare system so she is currently making a career in empowering women . She is organising an online festival and learning as she goes. Sounds pretty interesting and we hope it goes well for her.

Steffie’s daughter Melia arrives home and we make vegetarian burritos for dinner. It’s always so nice to sit at the dinner table and have a proper dinner when we meet new friends. The things we miss when we travel!
