Our pod/barrel went from baking hot to very cool so we ended up jumping into our sleeping bags in the wee hours.

We have a lovely sunrise as we make our coffee and breakfast. It’s another blue sky morning and there is heat in the sun already. We set off just before 10am. It’s only 2.5km before we leave France for good on this trip.

We need are bike shop as our back tyre is threadbare. The first one we come to is 10km into our day. They have a new tyre which fits our 27.5inch wheels - 27Euro ouch. I put it on but when I spin the wheel it has a bit of a buckle. Not a show stopper, the spokes need adjusting. But after my last attempt causing the spoke to break I am a bit hesitant with it. Since I am doing this in front of the bike shop the bike mechanic walks past and asks what is wrong. I show him. He says he can fix it. When adjusting the 4th spoke it snaps! Our spikes are not a standard size, I think they are a bit heavier to take the extra weight for a tandem. He says he will try to fix it with what they have. 45 minutes later the spoke has been replaced and we have new back brake pads. They were unevenly worn and needed to adjust the alignment of the break mechanism so it would not happen with the new pads. They also straighten the disc which has been bowed since Istanbul. Another 50Euro. It’s been an expensive morning! Maybe we shouldn't let anyone else touch Polly!

The cycle is similar to yesterday. Along a canal with a dyke between us and the Rhine. It's nice, but there is nothing that sticks out to write about.

We are camping on another lake tonight. This one is in a nature reserve. We have seen some signs with pictures of mosquitos which does not bode well. I'm guessing they are not allowed to do anything chemical wise to reduce the numbers. We don't have another option so will just need to deal with it. Set up camp and jump in for a swim. Nothing beats it after a hot sweaty day. Lakeside camping has been a joy. Being a Sunday and with not much food in our pantry we find on google a cafe about 950m away on the same lake.

We don’t know if it’s open so we decide to ride there. It’s open, Yay. We enjoy a cold beer and share a schnitzel and chips. The sun is starting to set and the mosquitoes are coming out. Time to make a quick exit and get back to the tent. Kim jumps into the tent as soon as we arrive. She can hear the mosquitoes pinging the tent that is how many of them there are! Even I am getting bitten, they usually leave me alone. Needless to say we were early to bed.
