It’s grey and drizzling when we wake. We wait for a break in the rain and Kim takes Pacman into the undercover cafe area while I pack up inside the tent. We hope to dry the tent as much as possible so we don’t have to carry a wet tent which will just add more kgs to our already heavy load!

While Kim is packing Pacman she is befriended by a fellow German camper who is with her husband in the caravan behind our tent. Gaby now in her 70s tells Kim about her Australian friend. The 2 bond quickly and she then offers to make us coffee once we are packed. She then offers to make us toast. We have our own bread but it’s a tad stale so we take her up on her offer to use her toaster. Before we leave we exchange details and (of course take a few selfies) incase we ever visit the Black Forest and can stay with them.

We cycle along the lake and through Stein am Rhein again as it’s just too beautiful not to.

We lose count of the number of times we cycle in and out to Switzerland and Germany. It would be confusing living here!

At one stage the two countries between Diessenhofen (Switzerland) and Gailingen (Germany) are connected by a covered bridge - wooden on one side and thatched on the other. Colourful painted houses line the banks of the river. Even in the overcast day it was extremely pretty!

About 10kms from our destination we meet a local cyclist. He is heading the same way as is so takes us on his route to avoid the traffic. His name is Urs which mean bear in German. We chat a bit but not as much as we would like due to the single lanes. At one point we pass another couple bike touring on a tandem but we are pushing up a steep hill so don’t stop! Such a pity.

It’s been threatening to rain all day and the heavens finally open just shy of our Airbnb so we turn up wet. Nothing a hot shower won’t fix.

Our Airbnb used to be a restaurant which the owners have now converted - less work in their retirement. Our 1 bedroom apartment has all we need to rest and escape the next few days of rain.

All the restaurants/pubs in town are also closed for so we rustle up some pasta with our limited supplies. The rain has brought a cold change. It's only 15 degrees - such a difference from a week ago. Enjoy a night of netflix and snuggle inside away from the rain.
